The Lyndon Baines Johnson Department of Education Building (LBJ), is considered by many to be the first truly modern federal office building constructed in the post-World War II era. Originally known as Federal Office Building #6, the building was built without a specific federal agency in mind for occupancy, and is free from any architectural adornment or features tying it to a specific use.
Located in southwest Washington, DC, the building was also a key component of early urban renewal efforts in the city and was the first of nine modern federal office buildings (FOBs) that were built in southwest DC between 1961 and 1976.
